WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP

Each camper and adult volunteer MUST wear their camp shirt each night to camp.  Shirts will be handed out at the parent/camper meeting.

EAT DINNER before coming to camp, even on Cook Night. It is usually late before the food is ready to eat. We will serve snacks each night of camp.

CAMP ATTIRE

  • Shorts, Capris or Pants

  • Camp Shirt without Modifications (REQUIRED)

  • Bandana

  • Cap or Hat

  • Socks

  • Closed Toe Tennis or Walking Shoes
(NO flip flop, sandals, or crocs permitted)

  • Sunscreen and Bug Spray (apply before arriving at camp)

A parent will be called to bring the proper clothing if a camper shows up in improper shoes or without Camp T-shirt! Girls cannot participate at camp until the clothing is brought.

CAMP SUPPLIES

  • Water Bottle (nice if it has a shoulder strap or hip strap or clip)

  • Pickle Barrel

    • 5 gallon Home Depot or Lowes bucket with handle and lid.

    • Campers use the bucket to store and carry camp supplies.

    • Campers are encouraged to decorate their bucket to reflect their camp name.

    • Campers can jazz up their bucket by adding a padded seat to the bucket's lid.

    • Search "5 gallon bucket seat" for ideas.

Check your child’s pickle barrel every night. Label everything. Do not send personal items of value or items requiring care and attention. A Girl Scout’s philosophy is, “Don’t bring it if you can’t carry it”.

LOST AND FOUND

Ask about lost items at Headquarters. The Camp Director will retain any items remaining after the camp week for two weeks.

SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere)

  • Swaps are small crafts that Girl Scouts give as gifts or trade with other scouts. Swaps can be simple or complex, cheap or expensive, whatever the maker desires.

  • Each camper will decide how many to make.  We suggest at least 50.  The more you make, the more you’ll receive! The difficulty, again, depends upon the girl. Younger girls like to make a more simplistic swap, while older girls like to make more elaborate ones, and more of them!

  • It’s important to make the swaps before you get to camp!

  • Craft ingredients: felt, fun foam, beads, ribbons, pipe cleaners, charms. They should include a   safety pin or a craft pin (hot glued to it) so that they can be attached to the campers’ hats.

  • Ideas – Go with the theme of the camp, go with the camper’s nickname, go with a type of camp item. The options are limitless!

  • Google “Girl Scouts + Swaps”.  There are many, many websites devoted to making swaps!

  • Campers should put their swaps into a Ziploc bag. Many girls use a carbineer to hook the Ziploc bag to their shorts for easy access. Some girls bring an extra baggy for the swaps they receive (especially good for the younger girls).  They can later pin them onto their hats.

  • Campers love SWAPS! Promotes friendship. They bond with other Girl Scouts. Mementos!

  • The girls will also be receiving special camp swaps! (They won’t need to trade for those.)

  • Each swap awards are given.

Swap Etiquette:

  • SWAPS pinned to a hat are considered off limits unless they are offered to you as a trade.

  • Girls are encouraged to trade with other units during free time. They should try to trade with everyone who offers.

  • Always say thank you!

  • It’s nice to give a swap to someone even if they don’t have one.

  • It’s okay to include your name or troop number on a swap.

  • SWAPS should not contain edible food. They will attract bugs! Save that for sending mail.

  • Try to make your SWAPS rainproof.

MAIL for your CAMPERS and UNIT LEADERS
Eagles Nest encourages you to send special notes to your camper during the week. You may give these to our OGs at carpool and they will deliver them by Eagles Nest Express to the camp mailbox.  Don’t forget the Unit Leaders! Don’t send mail on Friday night please, as mail often gets left at camp on Friday night.
